Businessman is a 2012 Indian Telugu-language action crime film written and directed by Puri Jagannadh. The film stars Mahesh Babu, Kajal Aggarwal, Prakash Raj, Nassar, Sayaji Shinde, Raza Murad, Subbaraju and Brahmaji in the lead and supporting roles. The film follows the story of Vijay Surya, a ruthless man who arrives in Mumbai with the ambition of ruling the city by any means. He faces various challenges from his enemies and the police, while also falling in love with the daughter of the police commissioner.
The film was produced by R. R. Venkat under the banner R. R. Movie Makers and was based on a concept by Ram Gopal Varma. The film's music was composed by S. Thaman, while the cinematography was handled by Shyam K. Naidu. The film was made with a budget of 40 crore and was launched formally on 15 August 2011 in Hyderabad. The principal photography began on 2 September 2011 and was completed in 74 working days, one of the shortest periods in which a Telugu film has been shot. The film was shot in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Goa and Bangkok.

The film was released on 13 January 2012 during Sankranthi and received mixed reviews from critics. The film was praised for Mahesh Babu's performance, Puri Jagannadh's direction and dialogues, and the action sequences, but was criticized for its weak plot, excessive violence and lack of novelty. The film was a commercial success and grossed more than 90 crore at the box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing Telugu films of 2012. The film also won four awards at the South Indian International Movie Awards and received fourteen nominations at various other award ceremonies.
The film was dubbed into Tamil as Bose, Malayalam as Mumbai Police, Hindi as No.1 Businessman and Bengali as Boss. The Bengali version was also remade with Jeet and Subhasree Ganguly in the lead roles.
Plot summary
Vijay Surya arrives in Mumbai with a sole aim to become "Bhai" for the city. He starts his mission by recruiting rowdies for monthly salaries. He wins the support of a local politician named Laalu after getting a witness killed by his henchman Shakeel. Surya also helps the Dharavi locals clear their debts by making the henchmen rob the original copies of the loan documents in the local branch of Bank of Maharashtra and destroy the bank records.
Surya falls in love with Chitra Bhardwaj, the daughter of Mumbai Police Commissioner Ajay Bhardwaj. He traps her into believing that he is a good person and pretends to fall for her. One day, Surya learns that Central Minister Jaidev Ghanapuleti, who aspires to be the next Prime Minister, has sent some assassins to kill him. Surya tricks them into believing that he is a guide sent to help them and plants bombs in their food that explode, resulting in a shootout.
While escaping, Surya sees Chitra, who has now learned of his true nature. When arrested, Surya confesses that he trapped her, but now he truly loves her. However, Ajay is forced to free Surya after his henchmen kidnap Chitra. Surya then reveals his backstory to Chitra: he was an orphan who grew up witnessing the corruption and injustice in the society. He developed a grudge against the system and decided to become a mafia don to change it.
Surya then announces his plan to kill all the criminals in Mumbai within 24 hours and make it a crime-free city. He also challenges Ajay to stop him if he can. Surya starts his killing spree by eliminating Laalu's rival politician Nanda Kishore along with his son and supporters. He then kills Laalu for trying to double-cross him.
Surya then targets Jaidev, who is the mastermind behind the Mumbai mafia. He learns that Jaidev is in cahoots with Guru Govind Patel, a powerful businessman and the mentor of Surya. Surya confronts Guru and kills him for betraying him. He then goes to Jaidev's house and kills him and his family.
Surya then calls Ajay and tells him that he has completed his mission and asks him to arrest him. Ajay arrives at Surya's hideout with his team and finds Surya waiting for him. Surya surrenders himself and tells Ajay that he has done a favor to the city by eliminating the mafia. He also tells Ajay that he loves Chitra and asks him to take care of her. Ajay is impressed by Surya's courage and honesty and decides to let him go. He tells Surya that he is not a criminal, but a businessman who has done business with death. He also tells Surya that he will always be his friend and wishes him good luck.
Surya then leaves Mumbai with Chitra, who has forgiven him and accepted his love.
